Dr. Carol Hurn
Dr. Hurn, Medical Director

Dr Carol Hurn has 26 years of Veterinary Medicine experience, focusing on preventive care, soft tissue and dental surgery with an emphasis on Fear Free handling of patients. She graduated from Ohio State University’s College of Medicine in 1997, pursuing a career in small animal practice in Columbus Ohio. Dr Hurn honed her skills in dentistry, handling challenging cases and easing discomfort in pets from dental disease during this time. She and her husband relocated to Portland in 2009, drawn by the natural beauty, as well as the vibrant cultural and food scene in the area. She opened City Pets Vet in 2012 and has overseen its growth into a flourishing, successful Veterinary Clinic serving the Southeast Portland community for over 11 years. Dr Hurn enjoys outdoor activities including hiking, camping, kayaking and cycling as well as being an avid gardener. Her dog Susi, accompanies her and her husband on their camping and hiking trips while June, her cat, stays cozy at home. Dr Hurn is compassionate about continuing to provide quality Veterinary Health Care to pets in the city she has grown to love.

Dr. Margaret Sidells
Dr. Margret Sidells
Dr. Margaret Sidells is a passionate and skilled veterinarian who graduated from the prestigious University of California, Davis in 2018. With almost five years of experience under her belt, she has become an expert in feline medicine, surgery, Fear Free practices, and pain management. Dr. Sidells prides herself on making visits to the vet a positive experience for all parties involved, including pets, clients, doctors, and technicians, by implementing Fear Free techniques and emphasizing clear communication with clients. In her free time, Dr. Sidells enjoys cooking, traveling, and taking motorcycle rides. She recently returned from a trip to Egypt and Jordan. One fun fact about Dr. Sidells is that she moved from the California Bay Area to Portland for the rain and blueberries. At home, she shares her life with three cats named Ben, Bames, and Gimme, whom she trained to shake paws for a cookie treat.
Amanda
Dr. Amanda Denninger

Dr. Amanda Denninger recently returned to Oregon after several years practicing urgent care medicine in New York. While she cherishes her time in the city, she is thrilled to be back in the Pacific Northwest, ready to explore all that it has to offer. A 2020 graduate of Oregon State University, Dr. Denninger has a special interest in cardiology, dentistry, and endocrine diseases.

At home, she shares her life with a Jack Russell Terrier, a cat, and her energetic two-year-old, who has already traveled to 11 countries. When she’s not caring for her furry patients, Dr. Denninger enjoys running, traveling with her family, and dreaming of competing in her first triathlon this year. While she loves food, cooking is not her forte—she prefers to leave that to the experts.

Dr. Denninger is excited to bring her expertise and passion for veterinary medicine to the community and looks forward to meeting you and your pets.

Elyce
Elyce, Practice Manager

Elyce has been in the veterinary field for five years, starting her career as a receptionist before growing into roles as a veterinary assistant and surgical assistant. Her strong work ethic, leadership skills, and passion for animal care have led her to her current role as Hospital Manager at City Pets Vet, where she ensures the clinic runs smoothly and our patients and clients receive the highest quality care.

Outside of work, Elyce leads an active and creative life. She enjoys exploring the outdoors with her dog, Nori, whether it’s hiking local trails or adventuring along the Oregon Coast. In the city, you might spot her roller skating through Portland’s neighborhoods, soaking up the sunshine whenever she can get it.

Elyce also finds joy in painting, using her creativity to unwind and express herself. At home, she’s a devoted cat mom to two playful and curious cats who always keep things interesting.

Dr. Carol Hurn
Jennifer, Veterinary Assistant

Jen is a highly skilled veterinary assistant with a passion for animal care and wellness. With an impressive 10 years of experience in the field of veterinary medicine, she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our team.

When Jen is not assisting our veterinarians and providing compassionate care to our furry patients, she enjoys spending quality time with her loving family. She has two adorable cats named Ophelia and Nic, who are cherished members of their household. 

Outside of work, Jen leads an active and adventurous lifestyle. She enjoys playing and coaching soccer.  Exploring nature’s beauty is another passion of hers, and she frequently embarks on hiking adventures to unwind and reconnect with the great outdoors.

Jen’s creative side shines through her hobbies, as she enjoys crafting macrame plant holders and wall hangings. She finds solace in the intricate patterns and the meditative process of creating unique pieces. Moreover, she loves traveling with her family, seizing every opportunity to explore new places, cultures, and experiences.

Jen’s dedication to the well-being of animals, combined with her diverse interests and warm personality, make her an invaluable asset to our veterinary team. Her commitment to exceptional patient care and genuine compassion is evident in all her interactions, and she continually strives to make a positive impact in the lives of both pets and their owners.

Marissa, Veterinary Assistant

Marissa is a dedicated and experienced Veterinary Assistant with a passion for animals and a wealth of knowledge acquired over her six years in the field of veterinary medicine. Her journey began with a deep-rooted love for animals and a desire to make a positive impact on their lives. Throughout her career, she has consistently demonstrated her commitment to providing compassionate care and support to both the animals and their owners.

Outside of her veterinary work, Marissa enjoys a variety of hobbies that reflect her vibrant personality. An avid reader, she immerses herself in books that span a range of genres. Nature also calls to her, as she finds solace and excitement in hiking through scenic trails, forging connections with the natural world around her.

Marissa’s appreciation for rest and relaxation is evident in her love for napping. She understands the importance of rejuvenating both the body and mind, ensuring she’s always ready to face the challenges of her dynamic profession. 

But perhaps her biggest passion is her four-legged companions. Marissa shares her home with an adorable mix of dogs and cats, each with a unique personality and charm. Pig, Millie, Chip, Queso, and Chula are more than just pets; they’re beloved members of her family who bring endless joy and love to her life.

Marissa’s dedication to animal care, coupled with her vibrant passions, make her a cherished member of the veterinary community and a remarkable person in every aspect of her life.

Matthew, Veterinary Assistant

Matthew is a dedicated professional with a deep passion for animals and a wealth of experience in the veterinary field. With 17 years of service as a veterinary assistant, he has honed his skills and expertise in caring for a variety of creatures, making him a trusted and invaluable member of our veterinary team.

At home, Matthew extends his love for animals to his personal menagerie. He shares his life with a dog, a bird, and a tortoise, creating a harmonious and diverse family that reflects his commitment to the well-being of animals.

Beyond his professional and pet-related endeavors, Matthew’s life is enriched by a range of diverse interests and hobbies. He is a music enthusiast, often spending his free time exploring various genres, attending live concerts, and even playing musical instruments himself. Matthew frequently embarks on hiking adventures to reconnect with the great outdoors. His passion for exploring the wild also extends to mushroom foraging.

Matthew’s creativity knows no bounds, as he’s an avid artist, dabbling in various artistic forms. Whether he’s sketching, painting, or sculpting, his artistic pursuits provide an outlet for self-expression and the opportunity to capture the beauty he finds in the world around him.

In both his professional and personal life, Matthew’s enduring dedication to animals and his multifaceted interests paint a picture of a compassionate and well-rounded individual. His experience, love for animals, and diverse hobbies make him a fascinating and skilled individual who positively impacts both the animal kingdom and the human world.

Terri, Veterinary Assistant
Terri is an exceptional Veterinary Assistant with a deep passion for animal care and is currently working toward earning her CVT through Penn Foster. She grew up in Florida and spent many years as a barista before transitioning into dog grooming. In 2012, Terri moved to Oregon to enjoy the scenic views and gloomy weather, where she worked in forest restoration and cultivation. Despite her success in these areas, her love for animals always remained strong, especially after the loss of her beloved 17-year-old toy poodle, Bunny. This loss inspired her to pursue a full-time career dedicated to helping animals.

In addition to her passion for animal care, Terri is also an avid plant enthusiast. She spends her free time nurturing a variety of houseplants, growing hydroponic vegetables, and propagating new plants.

At home, Terri shares her life with her Australian Shepherd, Bandit, and her Mexican redknee tarantula, Guillermo. She enjoys exploring the city with Bandit, taking bike rides with her husband to discover dog parks, coffee shops, and dog-friendly restaurants.

When not out and about, Terri enjoys hiking, visiting botanical gardens, and finding waterfalls or mountain vistas. She unwinds by watching science fiction movies, playing arcade games, and attending live music events.

Terri is dedicated to creating a Fear Free environment for all animals in her care and looks forward to getting to know each of our wonderful patients.

Sarah, Veterinary Assistant
Sarah began her journey with City Pets Vet four years ago as a kennel technician and has since grown into an incredible veterinary assistant. Her dedication and compassion have made her an invaluable part of our team. Sarah has a special soft spot for feline friends and brings gentle, attentive care to every patient she works with.

At home, she enjoys the company of her two beloved cats, Colette and Finn. When she’s not at the clinic, you can often find her working on a puzzle or exploring local estate sales in search of hidden treasures.

Levi, CSR

Introducing to the team, Levi; an incredibly passionate and outgoing animal professional with 15 years of various experience with animals, and an even longer passion for critters of all sorts. His care for animals began at a very young age, and has driven him through multiple routes within the animal care world, beginning with volunteering at local wildlife rescues and farms, to pet grooming, and finally landing in veterinary medicine.

Levi enjoys all kinds of creatures, and has worked closely with all sorts of animals ranging from birds of prey and local wildlife, to farm animals, and exotic reptiles and amphibians! He enthusiastically brings that outstanding level of care and attention with him to any venture, including for our dedicated clientele and their beloved pets.

In his personal life, Levi enjoys a multitude of creative activities and hobbies. He is an avid music fan and is into a wide variety of genres and also enjoys listening to many different kinds of podcasts and audiobooks as well, finding joy in solitary moments surrounded by creative or educational forms of media.

Levi is also a writer, both poetic and story-based, and takes inspiration from his favorite pieces of media, expressing the beauty he experiences through fantastical and often thought-provoking works. He has a more recent hobby venture, as well, of ball-joint doll customization and miniature figure painting, and spends most of his weekends dedicated to the tiniest of details in his work, perfecting his visions with the smallest of brushstrokes.

At home, Levi is a proud father to two very affectionate kitties, Castor and Pollux, and enjoys spending lots of time cuddling up with them, watching their favorite TV shows, or gaming.

Levi is a wonderful and joyful part of the team at City Pets Vet, and his dedicated effort to do his best for everyone shines through in every interaction with others around him.

Carri Mae, CSR
A lifelong Pacific Northwesterner, Carri Mae has called Portland home for over 25 years. Her passion for animals began in childhood and grew through early volunteer work with local animal and wildlife organizations. After moving to Portland in 1999, Carrie Mae spent many years caring for people, working as an educator, caregiver, and advocate for youth and other vulnerable communities.

In 2018, she returned to her roots in animal care by volunteering at the Bird Alliance of Oregon, where she continues to serve as a Permanent Animal Care Assistant in the Wildlife Care Center. Since then, she has also worked as a veterinary assistant and receptionist at several clinics throughout the Portland area.

Outside of work, Carri Mae finds joy in nature. She loves camping, visiting the Oregon Coast, and spending time with her daughter, their cat BOO, and their tiny rescued Chihuahua, Gambit.
