Dr. Carol Hurn
Dr. Hurn, Medical Director

Dr Carol Hurn has 26 years of Veterinary Medicine experience, focusing on preventive care, soft tissue and dental surgery with an emphasis on Fear Free handling of patients. She graduated from Ohio State University’s College of Medicine in 1997, pursuing a career in small animal practice in Columbus Ohio. Dr Hurn honed her skills in dentistry, handling challenging cases and easing discomfort in pets from dental disease during this time. She and her husband relocated to Portland in 2009, drawn by the natural beauty, as well as the vibrant cultural and food scene in the area. She opened City Pets Vet in 2012 and has overseen its growth into a flourishing, successful Veterinary Clinic serving the Southeast Portland community for over 11 years. Dr Hurn enjoys outdoor activities including hiking, camping, kayaking and cycling as well as being an avid gardener. Her dog Susi, accompanies her and her husband on their camping and hiking trips while June, her cat, stays cozy at home. Dr Hurn is compassionate about continuing to provide quality Veterinary Health Care to pets in the city she has grown to love.

Dr. Margaret Sidells
Dr. Margret Sidells
Dr. Margaret Sidells is a passionate and skilled veterinarian who graduated from the prestigious University of California, Davis in 2018. With almost five years of experience under her belt, she has become an expert in feline medicine, surgery, Fear Free practices, and pain management. Dr. Sidells prides herself on making visits to the vet a positive experience for all parties involved, including pets, clients, doctors, and technicians, by implementing Fear Free techniques and emphasizing clear communication with clients. In her free time, Dr. Sidells enjoys cooking, traveling, and taking motorcycle rides. She recently returned from a trip to Egypt and Jordan. One fun fact about Dr. Sidells is that she moved from the California Bay Area to Portland for the rain and blueberries. At home, she shares her life with three cats named Ben, Bames, and Gimme, whom she trained to shake paws for a cookie treat.

Keri, Practice Manager

Keri has followed her passion for caring for pets and their people for almost 20 years. She has been in leadership roles for the past 8 years, helping to develop great veterinary teams that focus on compassionate care and quality medicine, and is now dedicating this expertise to partnering with Dr. Hurn in making City Pets Vet the Vet Clinic of choice for Southeast Portland. In her free time, she likes to backpack with her chihuahua Widget and her growing family. She also loves to volunteer in the Portland community, help rehab harbor seals, and take walks to Mt. Tabor park and watch the dogs play.

Jennifer, Veterinary Assistant

Jen is a highly skilled veterinary assistant with a passion for animal care and wellness. With an impressive 10 years of experience in the field of veterinary medicine, she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our team.

When Jen is not assisting our veterinarians and providing compassionate care to our furry patients, she enjoys spending quality time with her loving family. She has two adorable cats named Ophelia and Nic, who are cherished members of their household. 

Outside of work, Jen leads an active and adventurous lifestyle. She enjoys playing and coaching soccer.  Exploring nature’s beauty is another passion of hers, and she frequently embarks on hiking adventures to unwind and reconnect with the great outdoors.

Jen’s creative side shines through her hobbies, as she enjoys crafting macrame plant holders and wall hangings. She finds solace in the intricate patterns and the meditative process of creating unique pieces. Moreover, she loves traveling with her family, seizing every opportunity to explore new places, cultures, and experiences.

Jen’s dedication to the well-being of animals, combined with her diverse interests and warm personality, make her an invaluable asset to our veterinary team. Her commitment to exceptional patient care and genuine compassion is evident in all her interactions, and she continually strives to make a positive impact in the lives of both pets and their owners.

Marissa, Veterinary Assistant

Marissa is a dedicated and experienced Veterinary Assistant with a passion for animals and a wealth of knowledge acquired over her six years in the field of veterinary medicine. Her journey began with a deep-rooted love for animals and a desire to make a positive impact on their lives. Throughout her career, she has consistently demonstrated her commitment to providing compassionate care and support to both the animals and their owners.

Outside of her veterinary work, Marissa enjoys a variety of hobbies that reflect her vibrant personality. An avid reader, she immerses herself in books that span a range of genres. Nature also calls to her, as she finds solace and excitement in hiking through scenic trails, forging connections with the natural world around her.

Marissa’s appreciation for rest and relaxation is evident in her love for napping. She understands the importance of rejuvenating both the body and mind, ensuring she’s always ready to face the challenges of her dynamic profession. 

But perhaps her biggest passion is her four-legged companions. Marissa shares her home with an adorable mix of dogs and cats, each with a unique personality and charm. Pig, Millie, Chip, Queso, and Chula are more than just pets; they’re beloved members of her family who bring endless joy and love to her life.

Marissa’s dedication to animal care, coupled with her vibrant passions, make her a cherished member of the veterinary community and a remarkable person in every aspect of her life.

Cassidy, Veterinary Assistant
Cassidy and her dog Bleu make an amazing team when it comes to adventuring! Whether it’s hiking in the mountains, exploring new parks, or just taking a walk around the neighborhood, those two are always up for an adventure. When she’s not out exploring with Bleu, she loves to spend time at home with her cat Jimmy, reading books, making candles, and crocheting. She’s also incredibly dedicated to her studies, majoring in biology with the goal of becoming a doctor of veterinary medicine. She has a passion for animals!
Andrea
Andrea, Veterinary Assistant
Andrea is a compassionate and driven individual whose heart beats to the rhythm of paws and tails. As she navigates the path toward becoming a veterinarian, Andrea has been diligently working toward this goal. She excels academically, taking courses that provide her with the essential knowledge and skills needed for a successful career in veterinary medicine. Her dedication extends beyond the classroom, as she has worked with our team during her school breaks for the past 2 years, gaining hands-on experience and building a network within the veterinary community.

While Andrea is passionate about her future profession, she also values the importance of family. She cherishes moments spent with her loved ones, whether it’s a cozy dinner at home or an adventurous outing. Her family’s support has been a constant source of motivation, reminding her of the importance of compassion and connection, not only in her personal life but also in her chosen career path.

With 17 years of service as a veterinary assistant, he has honed his skills and expertise in caring for a variety of creatures, making him a trusted and invaluable member of our veterinary team.

At home, Matthew extends his love for animals to his personal menagerie. He shares his life with a dog, a bird, and a tortoise, creating a harmonious and diverse family that reflects his commitment to the well-being of animals.

Beyond his professional and pet-related endeavors, Matthew’s life is enriched by a range of diverse interests and hobbies. He is a music enthusiast, often spending his free time exploring various genres, attending live concerts, and even playing musical instruments himself. Matthew frequently embarks on hiking adventures to reconnect with the great outdoors. His passion for exploring the wild also extends to mushroom foraging.

Introducing Elyce, a valuable member of our team and a skilled Veterinary Assistant with three years of experience in the field of veterinary medicine. Elyce’s passion for animal care and dedication to her work make her an indispensable asset to our practice.

 

With her compassionate nature and extensive knowledge, Elyce provides crucial support to our veterinarians, ensuring that our animal patients receive the highest level of care and attention. Her hands-on expertise and attention to detail contribute to a seamless and efficient workflow, allowing us to deliver exceptional service to our clients and their beloved pets.

 

Outside of her work, Elyce embraces an active and creative lifestyle. She can often be found exploring the great outdoors, hiking alongside her faithful companion, Nori. Together, they venture into nature, soaking in the beauty of the surroundings and enjoying the bond that comes with shared adventures.

 

When Elyce is not out exploring the wilderness, she enjoys the vibrant city life of Portland on roller skates. Gliding through the streets, she effortlessly embraces the urban energy while indulging in a fun and invigorating activity. Roller skating not only keeps her active but also serves as a way to connect with the vibrant community around her.

 

Elyce’s creativity extends beyond her outdoor pursuits, as she also has a passion for painting. Immersing herself in the world of colors and canvases, Elyce finds solace and expression through her artistic endeavors. Her paintings reflect her unique perspective and artistic talent, capturing moments of beauty and emotion.

 

In addition to her professional and active pursuits, Elyce is a devoted pet parent to two adorable cats. She understands the joys and responsibilities that come with caring for furry companions and brings that empathy and understanding to her work every day.

Dr. Carol Hurn
Abigail, Client Service Coordinator

Abigail is originally from Nashville, TN, and at the beginning of 2022, moved across the country in a camper with her husband and 3 dogs. Her dog’s names are Jellybean, Ross, and Juicebox. She has 3+ years of veterinary technician experience in small animal practice and emergency care. She also has volunteer experience with the TN aquarium, a non-profit organization called Retrieving Independence, and PAWS. She has been learning hands-on training and behavioral modification with Rose City Dog Training for the last 6 months. In her free time she enjoys exploring the coast, checking out different markets in portland, and spending time with her family. She is super excited to be a part of the City Pets Vet Team and help you and your pet!
